Who do we help?

We offer our free service to any individual within our community and to organisations such as charities. We receive our funcing to provide these services directly from Grants and Donations.

We help everyone from 19 to 90 - youngsters after school, those of working age and finally pensioners or seniors, who need to get to grips with this modern digital world we now live in.

If we provide materials or accessories to do the work we only charge the cost of the item plus an additional small amount to cover the administration and any delivery costs.

Why do we help?

Computers, smartphones, the internet and digital services have become an essential part of our lives for nearly 50 years. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, people in our area have not generally been able to keep up with the changes. We call that, digital disadvantage. Our Centre exists to try and solve that.

Our services are designed to ensure that youngsters and working age people are provided with the necessary skills to compete for jobs and improve their standard of living. Equally, for seniors to be able to use modern digital services for healthcare, shopping, banking and leisure.

Training

All our support activities involve some sort of training, designed to help you put computers, software and telecommunications to better use.

Workshop sessions for a couple of users on particular issues that have come to light during support activities.
Ad hoc training on a wide range of subjects including cyber-security and marketing via social media.
Short training courses in computer and application software skills with diplomas and certificates for your efforts.

Other services

We do lots of other things to help in our community. We already have a Town internet presence in the form of Okehampton.Org, which provides a completely digital news services, a business directory and lots of other useful information about the Town.

We are involved with many of the social and care activities in the Town, inclding helping the Transition Town Repair Cafe and Okehampton Carnival Club.

We have quite a bit of equipment in the Centre that will be moving to a Library of Things in due course, including PA systems, photographic studio facilities, inexpensive scanning, copy and duplicating services, laminating, display stands and event filming.

Sales and Recycling

The Centre is not a retail computer or telephone shop nor does it specifically act as a repair shop. If you need help with purchasing new equipment, we can advise. If you have some apparently broken equipment, Staff can advise or help you make repairs to the equipment and systems for yourself.

However the Centre does recycle and refurbish equipment for resale on a commission basis. Bring us your old and unused equipment and we will help put it to good use.

Therefore the Centre has a limited range of second-hand and some new desk-top computers, laptops, tablets and phones for sale. On the other hand, it has an extensive range of useful accessories available. These are listed in the on-line shop for sales and collection from the Centre.
